Dark Exposure: Illuminating Love ~ Full Moon Ritual

Beloved,

What are you discovering about yourself in this time of deep introspection? If you haven’t been intentionally making space for self-reflection in the last couple of weeks, perhaps you are feeling it in your body- the pull to do so.

Everything about the energy of this portal of time sets us up to journey deep within ourselves. We are being invited to journey into the darkness within, the place where we awaken to our truth. The place where light is birthed.

DARKENING DAYS

A brief overview of what is occurring now should give you the sense of why this is an important time for reflecting, listening, and discovery: We are in the midst of Mercury Retrograde (a time to slow down to reflect and review), we are in the season of honoring ancestors and the shift into the dark time of year (through celebrations of Día de los Muertos, Samhain, Diwali, etc), we are beginning to experience shorter days with the seasonal shift (with less daylight comes more exposure to darkness), and we are in the middle of the Sun’s journey through Scorpio (the intense sign of deep exploration of dark waters).

So, if you’ve been feeling pulled towards the darker aspects of yourself, perhaps you can see why. This is part of a greater cosmic cycle that is creating these energetic invitations for you to truly know yourself. To not look away from what shows itself within the darkness. You are not alone in this work. Each of us is invited into the darkness individually and we are all going in together.

This is a pivotal time for us to awaken to all aspects of who we are. The cosmos knows we are divine beings, and everything we experience in this human journey is helping to guide us back to knowing our truth. We forget our divinity, we judge aspects of ourselves and reject parts of who we are believing that to be loved and accepted in our lives we mustn’t let others see these shadow aspects, we must be free of them.

To awaken to your truth is to embrace all of who you are in this very moment. To embrace all of who you are is to embrace your shadow aspects. To embrace your shadows is to love yourself fully and completely.

To love yourself is to awaken to the light within you.

The sacred function of the dark time of year serves to awaken us to our divine light. Through the journey into the darkness we find the truth of our light. That’s what all of this cosmic unfolding ultimately serves. As the end of an incredibly intense year intended to bring all of our old woundings and karmic cycles to the surface approaches, we begin the literal descent into darkness to discover the light within. And after what has potentially been the darkest time for many of us already, we now see this inner light shining brighter than ever before.

Now we are stronger by what have learned this past year. The work continues, but we are seeing that through the challenges and trials, we gain strength, we become empowered, and we rise up into our most radiant selves fueled by the divine light within that we access through the expanded heart.

We see in the darkness the way to the light is through the embodiment of Love.

FULL MOON IN TAURUS

There is a lot of profound energy surrounding the approaching Full Moon in Taurus, occurring early on Tuesday morning, November 12th at 5:34 am PST.

Full Moons are a culminating energy, a time to reflect on all that’s been experienced in the last cycle. The way to work with this energy is to release what no longer serves and give gratitude for all you’ve learned and received.

The earthy Taurus energy lighting up this dark passage of the Sun in Scorpio helps us to find our grounding: We see where to put our feet on the earth and we begin to integrate our experiences with Scorpio thus far. Taurus is ruled by Venus, so strong love comes with this Moon. The focus is on integrating your heart’s truth, and feeling the strength of Self-Love supporting you greatly at this time.

This Full Moon helps us to illuminate what our truth is, helping us to see what perhaps we’d rather let stay hidden in the dark. Can you let yourself really see what’s in your own darkness, and can you let yourself be grateful for what you discover?

THE RITUAL

Perform this ritual either the night before the exact peak of the Taurus Full Moon (the evening of 11/11) or consider waking early on 11/12 and be with it at its exact timing of 5:34 am PST for a beautiful sunrise ceremony.

You’ll need 2 pieces of blank paper, a writing utensil, a lit candle, and a quiet space. If it suits you, you may sit on the earth outside to connect with Taurus’ earth energy.

Light your candle to set the sacred space. Close your eyes and take several deep breaths in and out to become present and still. If you are sitting in a chair, place your feet on the earth. Whether sitting on the floor or with feet on the earth, feel yourself receiving the supportive energy of the earth. Feel yourself grounded. Feel yourself connecting in with the energy of the Taurus Moon.

From this peaceful, silent state, ask yourself these questions, and write out your responses:

What are the highlights of the last cycle (speak to the highs and lows)?

What am I grateful for? What are the gifts I’ve received through each of these experiences (the positive and negative)?

How can I speak my truth with greater strength?

How can I bring more Self-Love into my daily life?

What is the truth of my heart that wants to be seen now?

For your 2nd sheet of paper, ask yourself and respond:

What is the light of the Moon showing me needs to be released now?

Taurus rules the voice, so harmonize with your truth through speaking. If you are indoors, speak all you’ve written out loud to energize and bless these words.

If you are outdoors, lean in close to the ground and speak your words aloud into the earth. Feel the vibration of your words as you speak, feel yourself growing in strength and power as you acknowledge what you are releasing and what you are grateful for.

Feel the resonance of what you are releasing and declaring vibrating in harmony with the earth.

When you are complete, close the ritual by burying your releasing paper in the earth (in an appropriate place) with the blessing of the light of the Moon and the light of your heart’s truth. Keep the first page of writing in a journal or on an altar, and refer back to your heart’s illuminated guidance regularly during this next cycle.

Close by stating: And so it is. Blessed be.
