Beloved,
This morning, my mala broke. It’s a complex feeling when a sacred object such as a mala breaks. It’s definitely something to pause and reflect about, because of the significance and meaning a mala holds. There’s a sadness that something so special has been lost, the letting go of an object that has represented something powerful.
If you’re not familiar, a mala is a sacred string of seeds that mantras and prayers are chanted upon repetitiously with devotion. This is an object that holds very powerful, sacred energy, the blessings of devoted practice creating vibrations of divinity in the object itself. As an object, it represents spiritual practice, devotion, commitment, sacred intention, and divine presence.
The breaking of a mala can mean many things unique to the individual, but mostly it can signify the completion of a cycle, and the release of divine energy.
SACRED MESSENGER
Right away I found myself smiling at the breakage the moment it happened, feeling, amongst many things, the presence of Mercury Retrograde at play. The phenomena of Mercury Retrograde is known for technological breakdowns, and while this isn’t computer related, mala practice is indeed sacred technology, and a means of communicating with the Divine. And this call to pause and reflect on the experience is precisely the energy of Mercury Retrograde. Mercury is the Messenger, so through the breaking of the mala is the delivery of a powerful message.
I smiled knowing the timing of its breakage was no coincidence, happening not only at the close of a deeply transformative passage of Scorpio through the Sun as well as a couple of days before Mercury goes direct, but right after the confirmation of very new plans for me being set just the hour prior.
I smiled knowing the breaking of the mala showed me I’ve completed a significant cycle, and it’s not needed for the original intention any longer.
I smiled knowing this was a very clear divine sign of a huge blessing, and still my heart pained at the loss of its form.
This is the experience of transformation. The changes we invite in start happening, and with that is the loss of that which we’ve known. It can be an uncomfortable process that is necessary to be experienced for expansion to take place.
To grow and expand, we are asked to release that which once did serve our journeys, but is no longer needed. To receive greater gifts, we must let go of that which has been meaningful and has served its purpose in bringing us to a new threshold of transformation.
If you’ve worked with me in private sessions or sat in ceremony with me, you likely know the presence of the mala in my spiritual practice. (And I’ve definitely inspired and taught many people to start working with one!) It feels meaningful to share this small yet significant, heartfelt experience with you, this marker of a cycle ending as it simultaneously indicates a new sacred cycle beginning.
LOOK FOR YOUR SIGNS
The last day of Scorpio season will be this coming Thursday, and the day prior Mercury stations direct. This signifies a huge shift in energy, and a readiness for moving forward into brand new territory and journeys comes very soon. We’ve been through a rich period of inner work, and all that is shifting internally will start to be seen in our forward movements. We are still able to make the most of this supported time of inner focus these next several days, so if you haven't had much reflective time lately, create some space for yourself to do so.
There are many ways in which messages and signs help us in our paths, and today it was my beloved mala that offered a strong message for me. Perhaps there are other ways in your own life in which you are receiving divine messages. Take some reflective moments to consider subtle ways message are coming to you. Your messages may be affirming your path, answering questions you have, or alerting you to something that’s out of alignment.
What experiences in your life are asking for your attention and that are holding important information for you from your higher guidance?
