Beloved,
Last week I wrote about the power of bringing our relationships with others into balance and harmony by honoring them as Sacred. I’m grateful to have heard from many of you who resonated with the guidance and suggestions of how to bless relationships with Divine Love. Truly, as hard as it may feel at times, the heart of our relationships with everyone in our lives is love.
And the way to experience love for others starts with love for yourself.
What determines the foundation of our relationships with others is our relationship with the self. To bring the greatest love to our relationships with the people in our lives, we must first establish the foundation of loving relationship with ourselves.
LOOKING FOR LOVE WITHIN ME
Many years ago when I first moved to the desert, I was becoming more and more awakened to my truth. I was becoming aware of relationship patterns that still seemed to play out as much as I thought I was growing and healing. I thought I was changing and making better choices, but clearly something was in deep need of my attention that I couldn’t yet see. The more attention I gave to myself for healing, the more I would discover hidden in the depths.
A result of many experiences guided me into the clear knowing that instead of looking for love with another person, it was time to find the love within myself. I made a commitment to myself that I would stop seeking relationship with another as the remedy for what felt out of balance within, and would instead be devoted to building an authentic relationship with myself. I admitted that I wasn’t fully loving myself and that I didn’t know what that really meant.
I was ready to embark on the journey of self-love fully and completely. At that time, I had no idea what the Divine had in store for me in this deeply transformative journey of Love.
IN RELATIONSHIP WITH MYSELF
It was only a few months deep into this commitment that I began to have the true experience of self-relationship and felt the power of self-love. Once this love was established within myself, there was naturally no seeking relationship with another. I had the experience of feeling whole and complete within myself for the first time. I found myself in a state of bliss, peace, and inner harmony I didn’t know could exist on my own.
And now, for almost 7 years, I have been in sacred relationship with myself. What this means in plain language is that I haven’t been romantically involved with anyone all this while. This unanticipated journey of diving deep into celibacy has been a tremendous period of profound healing, purification, self-awareness, forgiveness, spiritual expansion, and extraordinary transformation.
It has been a time of developing a true relationship with myself.
I have established authentic self-love that I never knew before. I have learned to care for myself and prioritize this above all else. I have come into a great awareness of understanding the truth of who I am. I have come into truly loving my own company and truly loving this body I inhabit and knowing all the love in the universe exists within me. I no longer seek love from others, or from external sources outside of myself.
I am in love with all that I am.
This love encompasses infinite joys and rewards from my dedicated work: The discovery of new ways of connecting with others, the creations that have been birthed, the knowing of what is true for me, the deepening of relationships of all kinds, the connection with nature the delicate strengthening of reading energy, the peace, the stillness, the relationship with the Divine.
The embodiment of self-love is an ever-expanding journey, and the opportunities to expand into love more and more appear all along the way. Meaning, of course, that there are challenges that continuously arise that help me to strengthen my foundation of self-love. It’s not a path of perfection, it’s a path of learning to love over and over and over again.
NEW LEVELS OF LOVE
As you may have read a few weeks back, this year has been ripe with opportunities to be loving towards myself while in the midst of darkness and old woundings rising to the surface for new levels of healing and expansion to take place. All of the work I’ve already done leading up to 2019 was preparing myself to arrive at the threshold of new initiation inviting powerful healing and soul expansion to take place. I opened myself to loving another and instead of experiencing a new romantic relationship, I was being asked to love myself more than ever before as I continued the path on my own. I’ve had incredibly profound awakenings in the darkest shadow moments when I simply remembered: I’m being asked to love myself in this right now.
Last weekend on the night of the Libra New Moon I dreamt about being in a new relationship with the last person I was involved with almost 7 years ago, someone who isn’t part of my life anymore, hold no negativity toward and haven’t seen in years. The energy in the dream was that of a new beginning, an overall feeling of peace and harmony.
The dream perhaps shows me a greater expanse of balance and harmony within myself, a new level of relationship within. I am a completely different human now from when I was last involved with anyone. I feel this sense of upleveling, of great gifts received through the challenges especially of this past year, and how much it all enables me to share myself with others with greater strength and compassion than ever before.
This monastic journey of mine clearly has much to it and what I share now is just a whisper of the magnitude of teachings, stories, self-discovery, healing, and potential that has been my experience with it all thus far. The mystery of this path continues, and more will be shared in a way that honors its full expression in divine timing as a way of helping others.
What has been most greatly illuminated to me through this path of devoted self-love is that everything I do in the name of loving myself ultimately becomes a gift I share with others. Whether it is the authentic embodiment of loving energy that benefits those I connect with in my daily life or the more intentional creating and sharing of my work and practices with others, all of the love within me is a gift I give without effort. This pure divine love touches the hearts of others, and awakens others to their own love within. This is what I’m here to do, this is why I am here.
This love for myself enables me to love you, just as you are.
That’s what this journey, this life, this reality is all about. This is why we are all here. To remember the truth of our Love within and be that in the world. To remember that this Love is the Love that exists within each and every one of us, that this Love is what unites us as One. Knowing this and remembering this is what enables us to have the best possible relationships with others, and it's what makes our relationships truly sacred.
